Correction Appended
It began inauspiciously. On a frozen afternoon in late November, as Moscow was draped with blocklong plastic billboards, banners and flags, each proclaiming a variation on a single theme — “POBEDA PUTINA — POBEDA ROSSII!” (“A Victory for Putin Is a Victory for Russia”) — a few thousand Russians converged on the city center for a rare act of political theater. It seemed, at first, like a tableau from the last days of the U.S.S.R., those heady months when glasnost swelled the streets with protesters. A handful of dissidents stood on a flatbed truck; a jumble of loudspeakers were stacked below; the crew of foreign reporters vastly outnumbered the local press; and across the way, the secret policemen with their unseen amplifiers were drowning the protest in canned laughter and Soviet waltzes. I arrived to “Praga” restaurant by smallest Russian vehicle - “Oka” one-door tiny car, where we were packed, four National-Bolsheviks, counting our driver - Yuri, ex-patrol man. Other distinguished guests of Radio “Echo of Moscow” were driving much more distinguished vehicles - I noticed them stepping out of foreign “BMW’s” and “Mercedeses”. Yuri have stayed in his tiny car, as I comrades Dmitri and Iliya went to restaurant. We when through metallo-detectors, then mounted on second floor, where jass band was playing. “Praga” is old-fashion building full of columns, huge windows, carpets, palm trees, all that retro chic, you know. So Jazz is playing, National-Bolsheviks on my sides, I am entering that gathering of beaumonde. It is 19:15. Although soiree have started at 19, the place is swarming with people.
First who I saw was chef-editor Alexei Venediktov, his red scalp hair looking like a barbed wire bouquet. My butterfly-tie, white shirt and black velvet jacket made him happy. He shaked my hand and said in delighted voice - The only man wearing a butterfly-tie here is the leader of National Bolsheviks party! - I have counted on your appreciation - said I. Congratulations, your radio is only one left island of liberty in Russia.

The member of the NBP Central Committee Sergei Fomchenkov is answering at the instance of Edward Limonov.
1. Could you present us the National-Bolshevik Party, its ideology and aims?
The National-Bolshevik Party now represents an acting political organization with 10 years of history of struggle, counting about 12000 members, having more than 50 regional departments around Russia. The party members are mainly the youth(15-30 years old), people discontent with their social position, marginals, nonordinary personalities with literary and artistic propensity, even “hereditary” revolutionaries. On the whole all the strata of society, different nationalities, religions are represented.
Our ideology is based on the works of such theorists of national-bolshevism as Ustryalov, Agurski, the works of Edward Limonov. We also borrow the ideas of current importance from Lenin, Mussolini, Mao and others.
Our aim is to come to power in Russia by means of National Revolution. We aspire to the establishment of the national and social justice in Russia, to the complete replacement of the ruling class - the power of functionaries and former nomenclature elite removal, redistribution and nationalization of property.
